Essential Skincare Tips for Men: Achieve Healthy & Hydrated Skin

When we talk about skincare, we usually think about girls. But should only girls have the privilege to look good? We ought to address men’s skincare problems too. After all, why should girls have all the fun? When it comes to skincare, men have habitually kept it meek. But men’s skincare is more important as it produces more sebum than that women, owing to which, they are more susceptible to oily skin and other skin problems.

Never mind men, it’s never too late to embark upon the journey of keeping your skin healthy, just the way you like to exercise daily and keep yourself fit. Here are a few skincare tips that you can use to cultivate healthy and hydrated skin that you never had before.

1. Know your skin type

Most men unaware of their type of skin, apply any product available in the market. This causes rashes, stinging sensation, or oiliness of the skin. Men have thicker skin than women. It is important to understand your skin type before you follow any skincare routine and choose the best product for your skin type.

2. Wash your face frequently

Washing your face frequently after an exercise or workout cleanses your pores. But you should avoid using regular bar soaps that contain sulphates and parabens as they may dry your skin. Instead prefer a mild facial cleanser/face wash and lukewarm water.

3. Keep yourself hydrated

Drinking plenty of water is the best routine for healthy skin. Drink plenty of water. Drinking 5-7 liters of water essentially fulfills the oxygen requirements of your skin and prevents the secretion of sebum. So go and have a glass of water before you read the next tip.

4. Exfoliate twice a week

Exfoliating your skin not only removes dead skin cells but also gives your dull face a radiating look. So if you are using the cleanser, add using essential scrub for this purpose twice a week to your routine. But do not overdo it as it may make your skin sensitive and dry. It is always better to exfoliate in the evening after cleansing and before applying any moisturizer so that the skin can recuperate while you rest.

5. Wear sunscreens while going outdoors

Irrespective of gender, excessive exposure to the sun can cause sunburns and overproduction of oils. However, wearing sunscreens act as a shield and protects your face not just from tanning but also keeps your skin healthy. Use sunscreens of higher SPF content for better UV ray protection.

6. Wipe your face hygienically

Using a tissue or a handkerchief to wipe your face is perhaps a trivial thing to say, but men often find it hard to follow. It is important to refrain from wiping off the oil from the face using your hands. Your hands may be sheltered with dust, bacteria, or other germs which on coming in contact with your face may result in acne or other skin problems.

7. Lookout for your shaving technique

Before shaving, make sure that you wet your skin and facial hair. Use a good moisturizing shaving cream and stroke the razor blades in the direction of hair growth. Avoid stretching your skin while shaving. Rinse the razor blades thoroughly after shaving, and prefer changing your blade after five shaves to avoid irritation.

8. Avoid taking stress

Although men and stress are synonymous, taking too much stress makes the face look dull and may cause inflammation. Doing daily meditation, yoga, or exercises, calming your mind before and after going to bed, engaging yourself in hobbies, and spending some quality time with your loved ones are some effective stress busters.

The skincare routine for men has always seemed like a never-ending treasure hunt but with an authentic map, decoding it is like a walk in the park. Skin forms the largest part of our body and taking care of it like other organs is an utmost stipulation. With a few credible products, inculcating upright habits, and a few extra minutes in front of the mirror, men can perfect a simple skincare routine too that can give them healthier and glowing skin.
